2 men arrested for allegedly trafficking heroin

According to the Massachusetts Attorney General's office, two men were taken into custody on Feb. 22 on charges of trafficking heroin in the Merrimack Valley. The men were allegedly responsible for dealing more than 250 grams of the drug in the area.

The two men were taken into custody are ages 33 and 27. Both were charged with conspiring to violate the drug laws and with trafficking drugs. The 33-year-old-man is also facing charges of possessing a stun gun and possessing heroin with the intent to distribute it.

The men appeared in court on Feb. 23 and entered pleas of not guilty to the charges. Their bail amounts were set at $100,000 apiece. Law enforcement officers allege that the 27-year-old man was giving the heroin to the 33-year-old man and that the 33-year-old was then selling it. Several agencies were involved in the investigation, including the Haverhill Police Department, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the Massachusetts State Police.

While all drug offenses are treated harshly in Massachusetts, those that involve drug trafficking carry especially severe penalties if a conviction is obtained. People who are facing drug charges might benefit from getting help from experienced criminal defense attorneys who may review the evidence in order to determine the best strategic approach to take in defending against the allegations. The appropriate defenses will vary from case to case, depending on the facts. Once the strategies have been chosen, the attorneys may then work to secure favorable pleas by negotiating with the assigned prosecutors. If there were problems with how law enforcement authorities conducted their investigations, the attorneys may challenge the admissibility of the evidence against their clients through the filing of appropriate motions.
