2 Massachusetts men accused of drug, weapons offenses

Two Massachusetts men were facing charges after being taken into police custody following a raid on Oct. 16. The men, 29 years old and 22 years old, were from Stoughton. The raid occurred on Pratts Court near Route 27.

Multiple agencies were reported to have been a part of the raid, which took place at 5:45 a.m. While the authorities were reportedly executing the search warrant, agents allegedly recovered two loaded firearms. The two firearms were identified as a 9mm Ruger pistol and a .40-caliber Glock handgun, the latter of which had been reported stolen. Authorities also reportedly seized heroin and approximately $4,500 in cash.

Both men were charged with multiple offenses, which included unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and possession with intent to distribute heroin, among others. The report stated that the men were expected to be arraigned in the county courthouse.

Those who are charged with drug possession and other criminal offenses are likely to face severe penalties, which can include a mandatory prison sentence. Even if the prosecution has evidence of drug possession and other offenses, an attorney for the accused person may be able to execute a strong defense strategy. In some cases, if there is a search warrant involved, the attorney may argue that the search warrant was illegal. If this argument is successful, the charges could potentially be dropped altogether. If the evidence against the accused person is weak, the attorney can potentially work with the prosecution in order to reduce the consequences of any charges. Finally, if more than one person was accused, the client may be able to provide testimony against the others, which could reduce the penalties.
