A local Easton man has recently pleaded not guilty to drunk driving. According to the authorities, this will be the ninth drunk driving incident for the Massachusetts man. Despite pleading not guilty, he still faces further legal proceedings in the Taunton District Court.

For this particular DUI charge, the man is facing potential consequences for driving with a revoked license in addition to the DUI charge. The police report also states that the man was found to have an open container of alcohol in the car at the time of the arrest, both in a cup and a bottle of brandy, which also carries a legal penalty. An article detailing the situation is not clear what specific consequences he could face if convicted, but it is stated that his driving record is lengthy and includes serious violations.

The man reportedly drew the attention of law enforcement after police spotted him sitting in a parked car on the side of the road. Massachusetts law enforcement officers report that the man said he pulled over so he could text. Upon a closer examination of the car, police discovered the open containers of alcohol. It is not noted if the man was asked to submit to field sobriety tests or if his blood-alcohol content was checked.

The man is currently awaiting further legal proceedings without bail. While any drunk driving charge can have serious consequences, the repercussions for a ninth DUI can be quite serious. However, the defendant still has the right to legal representation and should be granted a fair hearing before any sentence can be given. Prosecutors must overcome a high burden of proof based upon the facts of the current case — not any past allegations — before a conviction can be obtained.
