Massachusetts man gets prison for assault and battery charges

A Massachusetts man was recently ordered to serve prison time in connection with two recent incidents. He entered into a plea agreement concerning two different assault and battery charges. The judge has issued a sentence of up to eight years in prison.

The 29-year-old man was charged in one matter after he had reportedly admitted stabbing another man following a dispute during a party in Dec. 2010. The man who was attacked has recovered from his injuries. The charged man has been further ordered to make restitution to his victim in an amount that is just under $1,000.00

The second incident took place at the jail where the man was being held after the first assault. He was reportedly involved in an altercation that ended in another man's nose being broken. In that incident, restitution is also being set. The man is said to have admitted to these actions while other charges were being considered.

In addition to the felonies that this man has admitted to, there are allegedly other assault and battery charges that were filed against him. The Massachusetts criminal justice system is set up to protect the rights of all of individuals accused of a crime in our state. Not everyone who has been charged with a crime is guilty, and the burden of proving beyond a reasonable doubt that a person is indeed guilty of a crime rests solely with the prosecution. However, an accused person may sometimes choose to enter into plea agreements if they believe that doing so may be in their best interests.
