Felony drunk driving charges for Massachusetts man -- again

A recent motor vehicle collision involving a Massachusetts man resulted in multiple felony charges in Norfolk County. This is one case where drunk driving or operating under the influence (OUI) can not only risk the lives of other drivers but can put the life of the driver at risk as well. According to reports, the driver was not injured but awaits arraignment in the district court.

Due to alleged alcohol consumption, a Belchertown man in his late 30s reportedly failed to stop at an intersection. His vehicle collided with an oncoming driver. Reports said he was driving with a revoked license. There were no reports of any injuries to the other driver; indeed, that driver was said to have declined medical assistance.

At the time of the accident, the accused driver apparently had three prior instances of drunk driving on his record. Open alcohol containers were reportedly found at the scene of the accident. Authorities also charged the man with vehicle negligence.

Drunk driving [Operating under the influence (OUI) in the state of Massachusetts, also known as driving under the influence (DUI) in other states] can have severe life consequences if a conviction is ultimately secured. For the man from Belchertown, he must now turn his attention to defending himself against the current accusations. Multiple OUI offenses may have more severe penalties than first-time offenses. Therefore, preparation for his defense may include a full examination of all the facts surrounding his current collision, as well as the procedures used to determine the charges. With a strong defense in place, he may achieve the best possible outcome.
