Massachusetts woman faces criminal charges in alleged bird theft

In an unusual criminal case, a Massachusetts woman has been arrested after allegedly stealing a parrot from a pet store last month. She now faces criminal charges of larceny and animal cruelty. The woman has pleaded not guilty to both charges, but she is currently being detained without bail as a result of violating her probation for a 2011 criminal case. Bail has been set at $500 for the parrot theft.

According to reports, the green parrot was allegedly stolen from a Weymouth pet shop on Oct. 18. When police arrested the 41-year-old woman in late October, she refused to tell officers where the bird was located or what happened to it. Police reports indicate that the bird requires a special diet. The pet shop's assistant manager is concerned that it is not getting the proper care.

The accused has a pre-trial hearing scheduled for mid-November. For now, she remains incarcerated due to her alleged probation violation for an earlier assault and battery conviction. Once that situation is resolved, she will be under house arrest if she posts the $500 bail for this case.

As the accused awaits her day in a Massachusetts court for these criminal charges, the pet shop is appealing to the public for any information about the parrot's whereabouts. The assistant manager stated that his main concern is recovering the bird. As for the accused, she would do well to seek the assistance of a legal team that will examine all the evidence against her. A good defense strategy may help her fight the charges and clear her name.
