Car crash leads to drunk driving charges for Mass. woman

A 25-year-old woman was arrested after a traffic accident in late June. The Massachusetts woman was taken into custody for alleged drunk driving after her car plowed into a police vehicle and three other vehicles. The driver was allegedly driving the wrong way on Route 24 in Norfolk County when the accident happened.

After the accident, the driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation and then was held at the police station awaiting arraignment. She was reportedly driving north in the southbound lanes of the highway. Police were getting ready to deploy stop sticks when the cruiser was hit, according to a news report. Stop sticks are used to puncture a car's tires in cases where the police are trying to get a vehicle to stop.

Two occupants in two of the vehicles hit apparently suffered injuries. Reportedly, those injuries are minor. The state trooper was not injured in the crash although he was outside his car when the crash happened.

There are no details about how police determined that the woman was driving while intoxicated. Typically, police require drivers to take sobriety tests on the scene as well as breathalyzer or blood tests to determine blood alcohol content. It is not known what, if any, tests were administered to the woman.

The Massachusetts driver will likely want to learn more about how it was determined by police that she was driving while intoxicated, as well as the pertinent facts of the police investigation. This information can prove crucial as she defends her rights through the court process.
